The second semester portrait assignment introduced students to some other concepts of composotion for photography. Among the ideas students attempted in their images were:

  • altering the perspective from which they took an image
  • working with eye contact of their subjects
  • breaking/stretching the rules of composition, especially the rule of thirds
  • experimenting with lighting, especially harsh lighting to produce strong shadows
  • moving their subject out of his or her comfort range
  • shooting candidly
  • introducing props
  • focusing on a part of the body
  • obscuring part of the subject
  • taking a series of shots
